Hi there! I had a new post planned for this week but then I came home to a basement full of raw sewage late Tuesday night and I’ve been dealing with getting that stopped and cleaned up while playing a bit of catch-up with work. (If you’re curious, check out the video below.)
Whether you rent or own your home, make sure you have good insurance for your home and belongings. I can’t tell you how stressful it’s been dealing with the mess but I can tell you how grateful I am to have an incredible insurance company. I’ve been a USAA customer and loyal fan for a long time.
When I think of great customer service, USAA is the first company to come to mind. Every representative I’ve ever spoken to has been kind, understanding, and they will do whatever it takes to help you. Once again, I’m amazed and impressed by their quick and thorough response. I’m not an affiliate, I’m just a true fan.
Pro Tip: If your basement is prone to flooding or has sewer issues, consider storing your valuable items in plastic bins and placing them on milk crates. If you own the home, definitely get any plumbing issues fixed before trying to sell. It will make your life, and the potential buyers’ lives, much easier.
What Does Superior Customer Service Mean to You?

In business, it’s so common to fall short here, but it’s actually pretty easy to make your current clients happy. Take a note from USAA’s book and start thinking of ways you can make your current clients your loyal fans. You definitely won’t be disappointed.
Does Your Business Have a System in Place for Emergencies?
I’m not just talking about a fire or accident plan, although that’s important too. I’m talking about when unexpected things happen and you have deadlines to meet.
As an admitted systems nerd, I adore my plans. I was able to take the whole week of Thanksgiving (mostly) off because I used my Trello content calendar and had a system in place for writing and scheduling posts ahead of time.
I wasn’t, however, prepared for losing an additional couple of days once I got back. I’ll be looking at my systems and adjusting as necessary for handling issues like these. You can never plan for everything but the beautiful thing about systems is you adjust them as things change.
